Local Man Helps Family Find Rare Coin Worth More than 3 Million Dollars
Story Featured on Fox Business’ Strange Inheritance, Monday night 2/1 at 8pm
Edmond, OK January 30, 2015: Edmond resident and professional numismatist Paul Montgomery, will be featured Monday evening on Fox Business’ Strange Inheritance, telling the story of his role in helping a family realize over 3 million dollars for a rare 1913 Liberty Nickel thought by the family to be worthless.
The 1913 Nickel, known as the Walton Specimen, was thought to have been lost forever in a fiery automobile accident back in 1962 that also killed owner George Walton. The coin was one of only 5 struck by the United States Mint that year making it an exceedingly rare and valuable coin. Unknown to the family, the coin remained in the possession of Walton’s heirs for more than 40 years on the shelf of a closet before Edmond’s Paul Montgomery set the wheels in motion for the discovery and eventual sale of the coin.
Montgomery comments, “This is an incredible story of a down to earth family, whose fortunes and future changed because they found an old coin in the closet”, adding “It was a blast watching them as the hammer fell at auction when their coin sold for over $3 million dollars”.
The story will be featured on the Fox Business Network Monday evening, February 2nd, on Fox’s new show, Strange Inheritance http://www.strangeinheritance.com/.
